About Us

The beginning

Missions Thrust International was founded by Jorn Overby (M-Div.) in 1990 as a more firmly organized missions branch of a local church in Oslo, Norway. In 2007 the organization was established as a separate entity.

 

A ”thrust” for the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

The word “thrust” is both a technical term for the power of jet engines in air carriers as well as a word defining a strategy designating the assembling of different branches of the military into one “thrust” in order to break through enemy lines. The vision of MTI is thus to bring ministries together in unity so that their combined strengths can gain enough power to enable
significant breakthroughs for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Word – to a much larger extent than each individual ministry would be able to do on its own..

 

Evangelism and church growth

Over the years MTI has conducted interdenominational evangelistic campaigns and pastor- and leadership seminars in almost 50 nations around the world, predominantly on the African and Asian continents. The seminars have been noted for their spirit of unity, integrity and practical application of Biblical teaching and has often resulted in a significant increase in
targeted evangelism and church growth.

 

The “five-fold vision” and “This Gospel must be preached”

Just after the turn of the century the vision was more explicitly stated as “The five-fold vision for the Great Commission”, namely evangelism, discipleship, ministry, church planting and national unity of the body of Christ in order to influence the whole nation with the Gospel of Jesus. The star scripture was the words of Jesus as recorded in Matthew 24:14:

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. You will find an article explaining more in detail about this vision in the “Our vision” tab at the top of this page.

 

Literature – comprehensive book series

In line with accomplishing this five-fold vision, Jorn Overby has started the work on a book series giving a thorough but simple and systematic teaching about each part of the vision. Currently the first three stages – evangelism, discipleship and Entering into ministry are written and available for sale.
